Again, Basavanagudi ❤️

So as a part of Blr Hubba,I went on a heritage walk with gully tours with Kartik's shirt and Appu in hand as usual with a camera.I reached a bit late(on time precisely) unlike older times where I would be super early. Its hard to gather all the " Challe Pille' with me and go.I was definitely looking like an activist / journalist. so we started at National College metro station, Basavanagudi from V V puram side on KR road.So Preetika our guide was sweet and she explained about National College. Then we headed to watch some vintage houses ,one was called "Shooting house" which I had seen many times. she explained about Monkey Towers which were a part of 1900s Bangalore architecture which would make monkeys jump a bit hard with its style. Here in the above picture you can see that inverted 'V' kind of thingy,it's called monkey tower. This house was belonging to a doctor and the house opposite was even too vintage and the ...

Radio,Now?

I got a radio for myself.Growing up with keypad phones we would have FM option. But in Kumta, hardly we could catch any station clearly ( Dharwad Akashvani should have ) but with a poor network connection what can be even done?. But whenever I used to visit Bangalore in late 2000s my Chikkamma would listen to a lot of FMs like 93.8 and many more.I would find tht as a sign of sophistication and a modernization. But back home,I had a place in Talgod home which was designed to keep a 'Radio' and an oven could fit in there easily. when I started my job in Bangalore,I got a mini carvan for myself in 2022 to listen to vintage songs and FM.But I did not like the song collection to be very honest. But the FM part re kindled my Radio interest.I feel Radio stations really  have some great song selection and it's less toxic I feel. But 4 years passed by and my caravan is not working somehow.Repair would itself cause some amount and why not get a new radio ?That too, a vintage o...

Basavanagudi Thindi Walk😋

I went on a Thindi Walk.I was doubtful on going there. But the same walk could have costed 850 if not in this series.Aaand the place was Basavanagudi ❤️. Now you don't ask me that 'Navya, you go to Basavanagudi like 5 times a month and don't tell me you haven't explored anything?' I did .But I wanted explore new things, talk to people and find some good friends. So me and Aprameya went there.I had left my bag in the cab as traffic Police was pressurising the Cab Anna not to park and I was being the victim. Then someone gave it to me(Thank you Cab Anna and Stranger). so we stopped at 'Namma SLN' and it was closed. So it was closed and we went to Vidyarthi Bhavan under our guide Mansoor Ali Khan from BengaluruByFoot, an architect and a native of Basavanagudi. We got a special seating in Vidyarthi Bhavan and Dose felt nice after a long. Dont ask me why the photo is tilted! I had to grab the moment and take a pic just like that. There is Recor...

Mane Aayi( My Paternal Grandmother)

Mane Ajji( I call her Aayi, Buna Aayi) is/was close to me.The plot between her and my mom,dad is a different story.Let me try to re collect what my life was with her for the 13 years. Born as Bhuvaneshwari Gopalkrishna Shastri on 30th April,1948 in Kumta Unchagi,1 km from our home in Talgod Kumta. Her dad had a tea shop and young Bhuna used to go there. She might have been a talkative,as she is post her 60s.My granddad used to stop there for tea as he used to take grass on Bullock cart from Talgod Home to 'Aa mane'.They had 11 years of age gap and she had a protruded teeth though, but still beautiful with 4 feet height and  silky hair and a Bajari attitude. So love happened and she was married to Ganesh Hegde and she became 'Bu Ga He Ta'.Wondering, what is it? it's her signature which means Bhuvaneshwari Ganesh Hegde Talgod. She was married into this family where her Brother in Law was her junior, a rich Father in Law and a dark skin toned husband.I am not ...

Whitefield and a heritage walk?

Well,The title looks a bit vague for those who came to Bangalore post 2000s and All they can imagine about Whitefield is dusty areas, pretty looking office buildings from outside (iykyk) and conjusted jails(Pgs offcourse). But ever felt, Whitefield had a heritage too? it's even older than Basavanagudi and Own Malleshwara? so to  break the myth as a geeky Navya ,I knew Whitefield was the place where Churchill had a love story. But I did not know that many Anglo Indian homes existed and they could smell baking of breads around the inner circle. This was told by one of the people attended. Oh, forgot! This was arranged by Raksha Nagaraj under Bengaluru Prayana where I had done like 4 walks. So first we visited a church and it was good with Christmas vibe.We had visited a club too and the most favourite part has to be a century old home called 'Perfect Peace' owned currently by the D'souzas. The mother and son duo really has a g...

Navya's love for vintage authors!

Well,I am an avid reader.Other than reading I don't say I have any other hobby which I could scream aloud.I say I am a vintage Kannada reader to be precise. The reason being,I studied in Kannada Medium till my 5th grade (I am proud of it) and I can relate to a story rather from Karnataka when compared to a story from countryside in the US/UK. In Kannada,I too have a specific liking for vintage female authors like Triveni,Usha Navaratnaram,Vaidehi(she is not that old,but I like) etc.I feel , practising feminism would need some guts back then when society was not ready for certain changes. These women authors were bold enough to write and publish it when TV itself was very limited and magzines, books ruled all over.I relate my Amma and Mane Aayi's plot to all these scenes. Also I feel vintage stories or novels had depth which currently it's lacking. I thought I would save money but I ended up ordering 5 books this week and 4 are from Usha Navaratnaram (she is the on...
