I went on a Thindi Walk.I was doubtful on going there. But the same walk could have costed 850 if not in this series.Aaand the place was Basavanagudi ❤️.
Now you don't ask me that 'Navya, you go to Basavanagudi like 5 times a month and don't tell me you haven't explored anything?'
I did .But I wanted explore new things, talk to people and find some good friends.
So me and Aprameya went there.I had left my bag in the cab as traffic Police was pressurising the Cab Anna not to park and I was being the victim. Then someone gave it to me(Thank you Cab Anna and Stranger).
so we stopped at 'Namma SLN' and it was closed.
So it was closed and we went to Vidyarthi Bhavan under our guide Mansoor Ali Khan from BengaluruByFoot, an architect and a native of Basavanagudi. We got a special seating in Vidyarthi Bhavan and Dose felt nice after a long.
Dont ask me why the photo is tilted! I had to grab the moment and take a pic just like that. There is Record of not throwing even a plate also while serving like this and this is the special serving style of Vidyarthi Bhavan.
Our guide told many stories and I will share some here.Vidyarthi Bhavan remains closed on Friday as India had got independence on Aug 15th ,1947 which was on a Friday. Also earlier people used to steal the steel cups as it was costly before.so the hotel people had written on the steel glass used in Vidyarthi Bhavan that "This glass was stolen from Vidyarthi Bhavan' before hand. Also the current owner Arun Adiga was an ex employee of Reliance Infosys Limited back then and when his dad had asked him to look after the eatery , he was reluctant. But it was Narayan and Sudha Moorthy who told him that 10 Wipro and Infosys can come up but not another Vidyarthi Bhavan.
Murthy's really knew the future🫡.
Now the dose costs 84 rs per one plate. Also the current building is just extended in last 25 years as the original one was just 10 feet wide.
I met so many people. This guy was an ex employee of Yahoo and was a product manager in Google who left his job just to homeschool his kids. One more Ajja (Old person) from Kasargod had come from Vidyaranyapuram who was talking a lot and was lost in the middle of the walk and came back somehow later.
Then I met Shobha,a digital marketer whom Appu liked a lot due to her red jhumkis, then Tanya,a chef from Copper and Cloves in Indiaranagar whom I gave a drop till Metro later. She said it's her first time in Gandhi BazaR and she would definitely come back. Then there was a lawyer daughter mother duo,a self retired army doctor, one mother and son from Banashankari 3rd stage, a couple from RT nagar and one more couple and lastly one more Uncle.I couldn't talk to last mentioned 3 people.
Now SLN was open and their Dill leaves Rava idli served on a leaf is a must try.Chuteny was really amazing.Often gems like these get lost and overshadowed. This family of Muddanna is a very famous in this business and they are all over Cubbonpet and Cottonpet.
Then we were taken to sip a cup of coffee in By2coffee.I had always visited this from the other side which is from Bugle Rock side.Mansoor ,the guide explained his college days in 1991 and his the concept of By2 coffee came into existence in Bangalore.
Then we headed to Puliyogare Point where puliyogare was cold.Mansoor told us that this is the place once called "Kadambas" serving authentic Iyengar foods and they were previously in Manipal Centre and had to shift the places a lot.
Now we were walking on DVG road and see what I found! I want to learn Veena now when my ukulele is laughing in my wardrobe.
Now we were at Mane Holige in the start of DVg road from Netkallappa road side and they offer 10+ varieties of Holige.I was busy purchasing Pickles as I always purchase pickles whenever I am there. This time it was "Aavakayi".My UPI was down and I had cash ,thank God!
Then the last stop was the famous "Upahara Darshini".It is supposed to be the first darshini of Bangalore which started the culture of standing and eating.Their Rava Dose is really famous and my chikkamma would love to go back there.
By this time, Aprameya was Cranky and I couldn't even say bye to the people who were my company for 3 hours. He was called the youngest walker if the group and doctor told he actually brings down the avg age of that group.I was feeling overwhelmed with no office work (yes,I will function properly if I have work) ,an overly active toddler and no travel since two years. So I could witness something new.Again we missed so many other food places due to time constraints and too much food is too much actually!
Signing off ,
Navya Hegde
