Well,I am an avid reader.Other than reading I don't say I have any other hobby which I could scream aloud.I say I am a vintage Kannada reader to be precise. The reason being,I studied in Kannada Medium till my 5th grade (I am proud of it) and I can relate to a story rather from Karnataka when compared to a story from countryside in the US/UK.
In Kannada,I too have a specific liking for vintage female authors like Triveni,Usha Navaratnaram,Vaidehi(she is not that old,but I like) etc.I feel , practising feminism would need some guts back then when society was not ready for certain changes.
These women authors were bold enough to write and publish it when TV itself was very limited and magzines, books ruled all over.I relate my Amma and Mane Aayi's plot to all these scenes.
Also I feel vintage stories or novels had depth which currently it's lacking.
I thought I would save money but I ended up ordering 5 books this week and 4 are from Usha Navaratnaram (she is the one who wrote Bandhana film which was enacted by Suhasini and Vishnuvardhan even though the original story is a bit different,so please read it folks!).
Reason why I ordered was,I had been to a last minute trip to Mysore as Kartik wanted a break and he chose to be a nice husband this time.He asked me to prepare the iternary where I wanna go.So I wanted to visit "Bellimoda",house of Triveni which would be converted as Musuem as per internet. It is situated right in Chamarajapuram , opposite to the tennis club,in the railway station road and house number is 1152.
Our driver was already traumatized by the places we asked him to drive to as it was entirely different than a normal tourist who would ask in Mysore.
He was trying his level best not to be judgemental and thought we were some intellectual people.
We could not find this home exactly even after roaming here and there. We ended as per Google map.Me and Kartik were chased by 2 dogs and Driver rescued us ,kind of.
Then he says "Why don't you call and tell Triveni that we are here🥹🥲?"
I replied "Sir, she had died 63 years ago".
Driver was from Chamarajanagar and it's really sad that he did not know about an author from the same place he was from.
I went inside but it was sadly locked and all her belongings like make up, manuscripts , saree everything was preserved in that 120 year old building and it was yet to be opened. But I peeped inside and it was really Vintage and I saw folded RCC structure and witnessed it in other buildings during my other venture too.
Here are some pictures from "Bellimoda" which I will re visit once it is ready again.
So when I came back to Bangalore post trip,I was stalking, searching about Triveni and her home etc.I got an FB profile created by her daughter and could read so many articles and in one such posts I saw Usha Navaratnaram's daughter too and my searching took a new direction now and I could see a series of interview by her.
I really liked that series and how she tells about her mom ,their demolished home called "Hombisilu" in Basavanagudi takes me back to that vintage thing which I could witness back in Talgod and in some films which I saw there.
So this is a backstory behind ordering those books.
The reason why I like these are to re live my childhood where I lived in a 50 year old home, people arround me were vintage enough and my mom would tell all these stories🩷.
So one becomes really innocent and desperate to re live childhood which is present only in memories.
I just have a big fat book almost finished and then I am planning to shift to "Niyukti Purana" as I saw "Bangaradoddi Naale" coming back from Mysore and everything is a co incidence.
Now I badly wanna go to Madhavan park and at the same time want to sleep too as my baby is asleep and back to Office work officially from Monday.
Will meet you guys with many more topics running in my mind soon:)
